Perhaps more than any other of our God given rights that our founding fathers recognized, freedom of religion has been the one most trampled on. A quick tour of Washington DC easily proves that God and the Bible were a vital part of government. Bible verses are engraved in our official federal buildings and monuments, and for the first two hundred years of our country's history prayer was often invoked at official government meetings - and not just "token" prayers to a nameless God, but devout and often lengthy prayers to a personal God (Congress still opens with a prayer from the Chaplain.) The Bible was often used as a textbook in our original public schools, however today the culture of "political correctness" has "sanitized" our schools and public forums of any mention of God or the Bible. The first amendment reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." but time after time government "authorities" have made a routine of "prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." Personally, I do not believe that today is the day of "God's wrath", but I do believe that we can limit the amount God can bless and protect our country if we continually reject His grace and goodness. Our Federal Government should be the ones PROTECTING our rights to practice and proclaim our faith, not the ones who are persecuting the citizens or elected representatives for our "...free exercise thereof..."
